Abstract |
Academic administrator Charlestine Fairley was born on July 24, 1938, in Greenville, Mississippi. Fairley earned her B.A. degree in sociology from Delaware State College in 1963, her M.Ed. degree in counseling from South Carolina State College in 1969, and her Ph.D. degree from the University of South Carolina in 1990. She served as director of Upward Bound and Special Services at Claflin College in South Carolina from 1973 until 1977, before going on to direct the Upward Bound at the University of South Carolina. She worked as a program officer in the office of substance abuse prevention for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She served as the director of Sojourner-Douglass College in Annapolis, Maryland. In 2009, with Anne Arundel County Public Schools, she started the Middle College High School Program to help at-risk student populations avoid dropping out of high school. |
