Scope and content This collection contains 539 letters (1943-1945) written by Jack Ladd Carr (1924-2010) to his family in Pennsylvania while he was stationed in Fort Jackson (South Carolina) for basic training, in Camp San Luis Obispo and Camp Pendleton in California, and the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Carr joined the U.S. Army in March 1943 and returned to the United States in December of 1945. He was involved in attacks on Anguar Island and took part in Operation Forager.

Biographical noteJack Ladd Carr (1924-2010) was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a radio operator for the Joint Assault Signal Company during World War II. Following the war, he worked as an urban planner, serving as Director of the Planning Department for the city of Annapolis, Maryland, on planning programs for the Diocese of Maryland, and for the Maryland State Department of Economic and Community Development as a senior manager for statewide historical, cultural, and art programs.
