Proceedings of the New-York state conventions for "rescuing the canals from the ruin with which they are threatened" : by exposing and resisting "the railroad conspiracy" for "discrediting the canals and diminishing their revenues with a view of bringing them under the hammer" and adopting measures for counteracting "the ruinous competition with railroads permitted by the state and instituted by railroad directors for the express purpose of breaking down the credit of the canals".
