Summary |
Millecoquins wreck is located on Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Millecoquins River near the town of Naubinway, Michigan. Excavations in 1991 and 1994 conducted by East Carolina University revealed an early 19th century two-masted vessel believed to engaged in coastal trade, servicing fishing communities on upper Lake Michigan. A substantial amount of material culture was recovered from a nearly intact hull providing a unique opportunity to study shipboard activity use areas and to test held assumptions about an early Great Lakes sailing vessel's functional use. This thesis addresses how intra-site spatial analysis can be used to interpret shipboard life and the functional use of the Millecoquins vessel. |
