Scope and content Materials dealing with unidentified flying object (UFO) sightings by crew of USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42). Chester C. Grusinski served on board the attack aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (1958-1960) and while in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (1958), Grusinski saw a UFO. The collection contains correspondence with other Franklin D. Roosevelt officers and crew who either relate their experiences with UFOs and the carrier, or deny any knowledge of such incidents; other UFO researchers; and government agencies (1966, 1978-1994). The collection also contains a newsletter interview of Grusinski; articles on Grusinski's research and other interviews; color-copy slides from a sighting aboard the carrier during Operation Mainbrace (1952); a color photocopy of the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt; various articles concerning UFO experiences; a drawing by Grusinski of his 1958 sighting; and biographies of Captain Ralph L. Shifley and Commander Charles L. Burbage, commanding officers of the carrier in 1958.
