Scope and content | This collection includes the papers of the Credle family, including correspondence, deeds, chatter mortgages, warranty mortgages, legal records, accounts, a surveyor's map, a photograph, and miscellany. The bulk of the correspondence consists of a series of letters from Blount Credle to his fiancee, Eunice, during the summer of 1932 while she was visiting relatives in Burlington, N.C. Several letters from a surgeon, Stuart McGuire, from St. Luke's Hospital in Richmond, Va., concern the death of O. T. Credle during surgery and a controversy over the charges for Dr. McGuire's services. Also included are numerous Hyde County, N.C., land transactions and an illustrated surveyor's map by James Latham, reflecting the boundaries of W. H. Fortescue's land. |
