Scope and content The bulk of the collection consists of genealogy notes taken by Jeannette Cox St. Amand concerning the Cox, Hancock, Hardee, Hart, Johnson, Little, May, Moseley, Nelson, Pugh, Roach, Smith, Stafford, Sugg, and Tison families. Most of these families resided in Pitt County and other areas in eastern North Carolina, but others resided in various parts of North Carolina and in the southeastern United States. Also contains information regarding cemeteries in Pitt County cemeteries, descendants of members of Virginia's first colony, indexes and abstracts of Pitt County deeds, and a roster of Pitt County Confederate troops. Also includes material related to organizations to which St. Amand belonged, including the North Carolina Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, Lord Craven Chapter; Stamp Defiance Chapter of the 7th District of the North Carolina Daughters of the American Revolution; and the North Carolina United Daughters of the Confederacy, Cape Fear Chapter #3. Several items pertain to the Episcopal Church, particularly in the Diocese of East Carolina. Other items include newspaper clippings from the Wilmington area and a history of early Bladen County, N.C.

Biographical noteJeannette St. Amand (1894-1976) was born in Pitt County, N.C., to Beriah Thaddeus Cox and Mary Virginia Smith Cox, both Pitt County natives. She married Ashley Tobias St. Amand and resided in Wilmington, N.C.
