Abstract The bulk of the collection consists of articles and talks on tobacco in his capacity as president of Tobacco Associates. Topics include the Tobacco Associates program, the effects of World War II on trade relations, export markets for flue-cured tobacco, tobacco consumption, the Marshall Plan and the European tobacco tax problems, price stabilization, the World Tobacco Organization, acreage and price prospects, growth of tobacco in Asia, and competition from the Common Market countries. Correspondence mainly consists of congratulatory letters on Hutson's appointment as president of the Commodity Credit Corporation. Printed material includes a "Congressional Record" that concerns an amendment of the Act Relating to Associations of Producers of Agricultural Products and a clipping on the goals of the farm program for 1937.

Biographical noteJohn B. Hutson (1890-1964), a native of Murray, Ky., worked for the United States Department of Agriculture as an authority on agricultural marketing with a specialty in tobacco. He was a marketing specialist for the Foreign Agricultural Service, chief of the Tobacco Branch of the Agricultural Adjustment Administration, and president of the Commodity Credit Corporation. Hutson was appointed undersecretary of agriculture in 1945 and then became assistant secretary general of the United Nations, with responsibility for financial services. In 1947 he became president of Tobacco Associates, representing tobacco growers in Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
