Abstract |
Correspondence reflects the separation of segments of the Murphey family from their home in Franklin County, N.C. Friends and relatives who relocated to Alabama (Decatur, Morgan City, and Madison) discuss opportunities to be found there; the financial situation, including the prices of cotton and corn; their health and welfare; and report victories of Generals Zachary Taylor and Winfield Scott in Mexico and of Santa Anna's escape from capture. Also included are deeds of gift for slaves from Polly Perry, a member of the Murphey family, to various relatives; last will and testament of Hartsfield Perry; a summons for Williamson Murphey; bills and receipts; and a poem. |
