Correspondence consists of letters written by George Rountree to his son George, Jr., while the latter was attending Harvard (1921-1925). Although much of the correspondence material is personal in nature, the elder Rountree often included comments on the political, commercial, and social events of the period. Topics discussed include incursions made by out-of-state Menhaden fisheries; railroad labor violence in North Carolina; democracy, aristocracy, and government in the antebellum South; the 1924 presidential election; Charles W. Bryan's vice presidential candidacy; the Sir Walter Hotel in Raleigh, N.C.; and the installation of city water in Kinston, N.C. Also includes copies of letters from W. N. H.
