Abstract |
This collection consists of biographical and genealogical material pertaining to several North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland families. Winder family material includes a history of the Winder family in Cumberland County, England and Baltimore, Md.; a genealogical chart; and a defense of the career and character of Civil War General John Henry Winder, commander of Andersonville (Georgia) prison. Also included are notes on the Henry family, which came from Ireland to Maryland. Also of interest is "Extract from Family Record" prepared by R. C. Martin, which consists of genealogical notes of the Bryan, Heritage, Whitfield, Blount, and Smith families of eastern North Carolina. Of particular note are biographical sketches on John Herritage (Heritage) Bryan and his son, Henry Ravenscroft Bryan. |
