The letterpress book (1885-1894) contains rail operations reports, including copies of weekly and monthly reports of traffic, expenses, earnings, and payrolls for the Washington, Ohio and Western Railroad. Correspondence copies in the letterpress book describe promotional activities, probing of competitive rates, requisitions of supplies, and other matters. The book includes a roster of Baltimore, Md., public school teachers. Financial papers involve personal expenditures for clothing, household, and other supplies in Wilmington, N.C., and Richmond, Va., from 1889-1895. The newspaper clippings are concerned with religion, art, homeopathy, and recipes. Miscellaneous items include a health certificate (1901) issued by the Wilmington Board of Health; the certificate permitted persons to travel in times of epidemics without being detained by authorities in other localities. Other material includes a history of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and Wilmington newspapers (1894-1916). An unidentified tintype and several photographs are in the collection. The photographs are of the Richmond, Va., area, the Joseph H. Allen homeplace, and Sarah G. Yarnall, age 106.
