General note | A curiously assembled volume, perhaps published by Robert Bell. The second and third titles, with imprint "America: Printed for every purchaser, MDCCLXVIII." were advertised in the Philadelphia chronicle, July 11-18, 1768, as "lately published and to be sold by R. Bell." For unknown reasons they are here reissued to fill out what appears to be the first part only of the 1769 London edition. The frontispiece portrait of Lady Montagu was engraved by James Smither of Philadelphia. |
General note | Signatures: A-C⁶; pi² A-D⁶ E⁴; A-B⁶. |
General note | The adjustment in paging between p. 49 and 51 preserves the integrity of the table of contents on verso of title page. |
General note | "The additional volume to the letters of the Right Honourable Lady Mary Wortley Montague: written during her travels in Europe, Asia, and Africa ... Also poems on several occasions; and her celebrated defence of marriage. America: Printed, for every purchaser. MDCCLXVIII."--[2], 49, [2], 51-57 p., with separate title page. |
General note | "The traveller: or A prospect of society. A poem ... To which is added, True beauty ... Likewise, The adventures of Tom Dreadnaught ... By Oliver goldsmith, M.B. ... America: Printed for every purchaser, MDCCLXVIII."--24 p. at end, with separate title page. |
