Abstract |
The collection consists primarily of miscellaneous unrelated material from Bellair Plantation near New Bern, N.C. Materials include newspapers, periodicals, sheet music, poems, miscellaneous items, and photocopies of legal papers. Legal papers and land records reflect the history of Bellair from its original granting to John Lovick in 1719 through the purchase of the property by John H. Richardson in 1838. Other items consist of a copy of a letter describing a New Bern wedding, a U.S. Senate Bill for restitution for Richardson property destroyed by Union forces during the Civil War, additional legal papers, a New Bern theater notice, a New Bern souvenir calendar, and a fictional love story set in Revolutionary War New Bern. The remainder of the collection consists of agricultural, religious, and ladies' fashion magazines (1872-1910); a sizable collection of nineteenth century sheet music; and newspapers from New Bern, Raleigh, New York City, and Louisville, Ky. |
