Abstract "The paramount question for most who will read this book is: How do I remain in a profession I love and continue to love the work I do when it seems like the entire system is working against me? It is my hope that you will find the answer to that question in this book. Yet, I also want to emphasize that while readers can use the information provided here to enhance their own professional quality of life, my real goal is to reach out to the collective. Change begins with each of us, but at some point, we must make a concerted effort to fix what is broken and transform our work environment. Otherwise, we are just putting a Band-Aid on a wound that will eventually fall off. We have to heal the whole, and that will take the courage of many nurses as well as their resilience, compassion, and yes, passion. The bottom line? Quality healthcare is necessary for people in any society to thrive. We cannot have quality healthcare without nurses. So, we need to fix us-our profession, and we need to transform the healthcare settings where we work, creating environments that support the rendering of quality care"-- Provided by publisher.
