Abstract | Samuel Suther was born on May 18, 1722 in Switzerland. In March of 1738 his father, with a family of twelve or thirteen members, left Switzerland for America on the 'Oliver'. On January 3, 1739 the ship dropped anchor in Lynnhaven Bay, Virginia. Samuel then went to Philadelphia. Samuel's wife was believed to have been Elisabeth Heyllman, daughter of Andreas and Maria Elisabeth Grimm Heyllman, who had come to Philadelphia from Switzerland in 1736. Samuel's final move took place in 1786, and it was back to Orangeburgh, South Carolina. He died on September 26, 1788. |
