Abstract |
Military officer Norman A. McDaniel was born on July 27, 1937 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. McDaniel received his commission through the AFROTC program at North Carolina A&T State University after receiving his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering. On active duty, he was serving as an EB-66C aircraft electronic warfare officer when his plane was shot down near Hanoi, North Vietnam. McDaniel became a prisoner of war (POW) for nearly seven years and earned an Air Force (AF) Silver Star for his valor and leadership in the POW camp. Following his return from Vietnam, McDaniel attended the Armed Forces Staff College and later the Florida Institute of Technology where he received his M.S. degree in systems management. McDaniel served in a number of positions before his retirement from the United States Air Force as a Colonel in 1988. In his post-military career, McDaniel served as associate dean of the Defense Acquisition University. |
