Abstract |
Association chief executive and presidential advisor William Stanley Norman was born on April 27, 1938 in Roper, North Carolina. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1956 and earned his B.S. degree in chemistry and math from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1960. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 until 1973. Norman served as a Naval flight officer, taught at the U.S. Naval Academy and served as an aide to the White House in the Johnson and Nixon administrations. He earned his M.S. degree from American University in 1967. Following his military service, Norman joined Cummins Engine Company where he held a number of management positions between 1973 and 1979. From 1979 until 1994, Norman worked for Amtrak, serving as vice president of marketing, group vice president and executive vice president. In 1994, Norman served as president and chief executive officer of the Travel Industry Association of America. |
