Abstract The bulk of this collection consists of a memoir (1852-1924) of Victoria Louise Pendleton. The memoir deals almost exclusively with descriptions of and incidents involving Confederate Civil War generals; North Carolina educators and governors; and the schools, churches, and famous homes in Warrenton. Subjects of particular interest include Generals Robert E. Lee and Joseph Johnston, Governors Zebulon B. Vance and Charles B. Aycock, Charles McIver, and Rose O'Neal Greenhow. Also included in this collection is a program of the play "Ester, the Beautiful Queen," presented in Warrenton, N.C., in 1894, and genealogical notes on the descendants of William and Mary Hayes Plummer of Gloucester Co., Va., and Warren Co., N.C.
