Carroll, Lewis, 1832-1898. Pamphlets of Lewis Carroll ; v. 6. ^A1200094
Abstract "This volume is the sixth and final volume of The Pamphlets of Lewis Carroll series. It includes material written by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under both his own name and his famous pseudonym, Lewis Carroll. This collection represents all of the known pamphlets and ephemeral writings that are not included in the earlier volumes. Many of these items were unknown when the most recent edition of The Lewis Carroll Handbook was published, and many are only available in obscure publications or rare-book libraries. As do other volumes in this series, this work expands our understanding of Charles Dodgson and Lewis Carroll far beyond the popular understanding of him as a children's author and amateur photographer (again, mostly of children). It reveals much about Dodgson's thoughts and works on a wide variety of topics, from theater, religion, and his works for children, to scientific and mathematical inquiry and logical solutions to practical problems. Whether in regards to postal rules or discounts to publishers or a dog tax or the morality of vivisection, this book's contents shows Dodgson again and again recognizing a problem and applying his logical mind-and, often, his Christian morals-to finding a solution. The ultimate goal of this volume, and of the Pamphlets of Lewis Carroll series as a whole, is to offer access to the workings of a great Victorian mind, and to support further research into Dodgson's multifaceted world of ideas"-- Provided by publisher.
