Abstract An exploration of the range of strategies employed by Redcar Children's Centre in Teeside aiming to alleviate child poverty. As part of a national pilot to target child poverty, a Jobcentre Plus advisor is based within the centre, and works alongside a training and employment officer to offer support and information to the parents of children using the centre. They use outreach such as trips to the local supermarket and home visits in order to encourage new parents into the children's centre. In addition there are one-to-one meetings with parents to offer advice on benefits and getting back into work. There are regular meetings at the centre with external agencies designed to help build good relationships and ensure that everyone is working together to offer opportunities and raise aspirations.
