Abstract | Escola José Leite Barros is in the small town of Tacaimbó, two hours inland from the coast of north-east Brazil. The film focuses on Antonio Fernando Santos Silva, who was headteacher for thirteen years, during which time the school became a democratically-run institution with committed staff, motivated students and a focus on school self-evaluation. Antonio is now co-ordinator of 65 schools in the region, but regularly returns to Escola José Leite Barros check up on progress. This programme is a portrait of a successful, socially committed and rapidly developing school at work. |
