Abstract Phonemic Awareness: This video begins with an overview of the terms and theories behind phonics and phonemic awareness. The instructors provide detailed, understandable definitions forming the foundations of the theories. This program also stresses the importance of print through the use of \Dear Letters\ which reinforces the idea of left to right tracking and that sentences are made up of individual words. Multi-sensory approaches are shown reinforcing teaching methods and encouraging early literacy. 26 Minutes. Copyright 2003 Magna Systems Catalog Number: MG-1132-03-DVD. ISBN: 1-55740-387-2.
Abstract Phonemes And Phonics: This video introduces the smallest unit of sound called phonemes. It stresses the importance of forming sounds correctly with the mouth and how using pictures to identify sounds in conjunction with doing an action (kinesthetics) helps students retain and retrieve information more easily. This module demonstrates how a multi-sensory approach helps students remember letters and their appropriate sounds. It also stresses sound awareness of: same and different sounds, onset and rhyme, and how blending individual sounds together makes words. 28 Minutes. Copyright 2003 Magna Systems. Catalog Number: MG-1134-03-DVD. ISBN: 1-55740-389-9.
Abstract Sound Awareness: This module begins with sentences, the largest unit of phonemic awareness. Hands-on activities help students understand that sentences are made up of individual words. The next level of phonological awareness is rhyming. Children learn the initial sound of a rhyme is different while the ending sound is the same. The last interactive lesson is about compounds. This section is designed to demonstrate the first experience children have segmenting sounds and the start of syllabication through compounds. 29 Minutes. Copyright 2003. Magna Systems. Catalog Number: MG-1133-03-DVD. ISBN: 1-55740-388-0.
Abstract Sound Manipulation: This video begins with the use of Elkonin Boxes to teach the importance of segmenting sound and blending it back together. Finger spelling is used to help children learn to recognize and separate phonemes. Later, phonemes can be used to teach children how to spell words systematically. This video also shows how to teach children to listen to and identify beginning, middle, and ending sounds. This video has both a teacher and students demonstrating these skills. 26 Minutes.
