Scope and content This Civil War diary (October 1, 1862 - March 24, 1863) was kept by William H. H. Leach of Company E, 3rd Massachusetts Regiment. In this daily diary, he discusses his training at Camp Hooker in Massachusetts, sailing to North Carolina, camp life, and skirmishes and battles at Kinston and Goldsboro, North Carolina. The diary ends with him in camp at New Bern, North Carolina.
