Contributions combine hitherto unpublished zooarchaeological data from regions straddling a wide geographic expanse between Greece in the West and India in the East and spanning a time range from the latest part of the Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages. The vitality of a hands-on approach to data presentation and interpretation carried out primarily at the level of the individual site--the arena of research providing the bread and butter of zooarchaeological work conducted in southwest Asia--is demonstrated. Among the themes explored are shifting identities of late hunter-gatherers through interactions with settled agrarian societies; the management of camp sites by early complex hunter-gatherers; processes of assimilation of Roman culinary practices among Egyptian elites; and the propagation of medieval pilgrim identity through the use of seashell insignia. A wealth of new data is discussed and a wide variety of applications of analytical approaches are applied to particular case studies within the framework of social and contextual zooarchaeology. The volume constitutes the proceedings of the 11th meeting of the ICAZ Working Group-Archaeozoology of Southwestern Asia and Adjacent Areas (ASWA) [held at the University of Haifa in June 2013]"--From publisher's website. 538 Mode of access: World Wide Web 588 Description based on print version record. 650 0 Animal remains (Archaeology) |zMiddle East |vCongresses. |=^A92784 650 0 Excavations (Archaeology) |zMiddle East |vCongresses. |=^A299142 650 0 Social archaeology |zMiddle East |vCongresses. |=^A186207 650 0 Landscape archaeology |zMiddle East |vCongresses. |=^A381230 650 0 Cultural landscapes |zMiddle East |xHistory |yTo 1500 |vCongresses. |=^A876766 650 0 Group identity |zMiddle East |xHistory |yTo 1500 |vCongresses. |=^A205590 650 0 Cooking |xSocial aspects |zMiddle East |xHistory |yTo 1500 |vCongresses. |=^A1013260 650 0 Livestock |zMiddle East |xHistory |yTo 1500 |vCongresses. |=^A100061 650 0 Land use |xSocial aspects |zMiddle East |xHistory |yTo 1500 |vCongresses. |=^A47999 651 0 Middle East |xAntiquities |vCongresses. |=^A653426 655 0 Electronic books. |=^A491897 700 1 Marom, Nimrod. |=^A1322772 700 1 Yeshurun, Reuven. |=^A1322773 700 1 Weissbrod, Lior. |=^A1322774 700 1 Bar-Oz, Guy. |=^A592175 710 2 International Council for Archaeozoology. |=^A880132 711 2 International Symposium on the Archaeozoology of Southwestern Asia and Adjacent Areas |n(11th : |d2013 : |cUniversiṭat Ḥefah) |?UNAUTHORIZED 776 08 |iPrint version: |tBones and identity |dOxford ; Philadelphia : Oxbow Books, 2016 |z9781785701726 |w(DLC) 2016013174 856 40 |zFull text available from Ebook Central - Academic Complete |uhttps://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/eastcarolina/detail.action?docID=4560153 949 CLICK ON WEB ADDRESS |wASIS |hJOYNER188 949 CLICK ON WEB ADDRESS |wASIS |hHSL77 949 CLICK ON WEB ADDRESS |wASIS |hJMUSIC60 596 1 3 4 998 5104184
