Biographical noteRobert Penn Warren (1905-1989) was a noted Guthrie, Kentucky-born American poet, novelist, playwright, biographer, and educator, who played a major role in the rise of the Fugitive and Agrarian literary movements and in the spread of the New Criticism during the mid-20th century, and who became the first poet laureate of the United States.
