Faced with dwindling resources and warring tribes, the settlement on Roanoke Island begins to crumble. Meanwhile Emme Merrimoth, a young housekeeper, commits herself to recording her every memory of the Lost Colony. During the long voyage from England she had become involved with Governor John White, who had asked her to marry him. But when he returned to England to secure much-needed supplies Emme is accused of witchcraft, shunned by the colonists, and enslaved by a nearby tribe. |
