Abstract QUINO, Joaquín Salvador Lavado, was born as the son of Spanish and Andalusian immigrants in the city of Mendoza (Argentina) in 1932. Since his birth, he was called Quino to distinguish him from his uncle Joaquin Tejon, a painter and cartoonist with whom he discovers his vocation. In 1976 in Argentina, a military coup occurs and General Videla takes command; Quino and his wife move to Milan. In 1976 at the request of UNICEF, his cartoon character Mafalda became the spokesperson for the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
