||Internationally acclaimed actor Ian McKellen argues that L.S. Lowry is in fact one of our greatest 20th century painters in this entertaining documentary about the artist's life and work. The film illuminates Lowry's extraordinary vision and features interviews with those who knew him and others who have been inspired by his unique observations of Britain. McKellen traces Lowry's footsteps through Manchester's industrial neighborhoods to understand his fascination with crowds; discovers rare sketches providing a window into Lowry's enigmatic persona; and examines his artistic legacy in our post-industrial age. Finally, he interviews Tate Museum employees about why none of the 23 Lowry works in their possession are displayed. With contributions from Carol Ann Lowry, Dame Paula Rego, Jeffrey Archer, Andrew Kalman, Sally Kalman, Ben Timperley, Noel Gallagher, and Gillian Lynne.
