After oil was discovered beneath their land, they rode in chauffeured automobiles, built mansions, and sent their children to study in Europe. Then, one by one, the Osage began to be killed off. The family of an Osage woman, Mollie Burkhart, became a prime target. Her relatives were shot and poisoned. And it was just the beginning, as more and more members of the tribe began to die under mysterious circumstances. In this last remnant of the Wild West--where oilmen like J.P. Getty made their fortunes and where desperadoes like Al Spencer, the "Phantom Terror," roamed--many of those who dared to investigate the killings were themselves murdered. As the death toll climbed to more than twenty-four, the FBI took up the case. It was one of the organization's first major homicide investigations and the bureau badly bungled the case. In desperation, the young director, J. Edgar Hoover, turned to a former Texas Ranger named Tom White to unravel the mystery. White put together an undercover team, including one of the only American Indian agents in the bureau. The agents infiltrated the region, struggling to adopt the latest techniques of detection. Together with the Osage they began to expose one of the most chilling conspiracies in American history. 610 10 United States. |bFederal Bureau of Investigation |vCase studies. |=^A634471 610 17 United States. |bFederal Bureau of Investigation |vCase studies. |2sears |?UNAUTHORIZED 650 0 Osage Indians |xCrimes against |vCase studies. |=^A401866 650 0 Murder |zOklahoma |zOsage County |vCase studies. |=^A9255 650 0 Homicide investigation |zOklahoma |zOsage County |vCase studies. |=^A5229 651 0 Osage County (Okla.) |xHistory |y20th century. |=^A655455 650 7 HISTORY |xNative American. |2bisacsh 650 7 HISTORY |zUnited States |x20th Century. |2bisacsh 650 7 TRUE CRIME |xMurder. |2bisacsh 650 7 Osage Indians. |2sears 650 7 Homicide |zOsage County (Okla.) |vCase studies. |2sears 650 7 Criminal investigation |zOsage County (Okla.) |vCase studies. |2sears 651 7 Osage County (Okla.) |xHistory |y20th century. |2sears |?UNAUTHORIZED 650 4 TRUE CRIME |xMurder. 650 4 History |xNative American. 650 4 History |zUnited States |y20th century. 655 7 History. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01411628 655 7 True crime stories. |2lcgft 776 08 |iOnline version:Grann, David. |tKillers of the Flower Moon. |dNew York : Doubleday, [2016] |z9780385534253 |w(DLC) 2016033222 880 4 |6264-00 |c2017 949 |i30372016661081 |ojjlm 960 |o1 |s28.95 |tJoyner48 |uJAPP |zUSD 596 1 998 4824769
