Abstract Through first-hand accounts, viewers relive the rush for gold and other opportunities in the West and witness the effect of westward migrations on Native Americans. This program explores the adventures of the '49ers on the overland trails and witness the prosperity of the gold rush towns like San Francisco, as well as broken treaties with the Plains Indians and the slaughter of Native American tribes in California.
