Abstract Documenting two major museum exhibitions, this program ventures inside the frenzied world of Jeroen van Aken-otherwise known as Hieronymus Bosch, the 15th-century Dutch painter famous for his visions of sin, damnation, and inadvertent eroticism. The video examines numerous Bosch works, including Ecce Homo, The Temptation of Saint Anthony, The Haywain, The Garden of Earthly Delights, and The Conjurer. While concentrating on the artist's central themes and imagery, the program also explores the late medieval culture in which he worked, taking into account the influences of the carnival and the religious brotherhood to which he belonged. Some interviews are in French with English subtitles.
