Abstract | Eight experts--Willi Reich, Kathleen Dale, Martin Cooper, A. E. F. Dickinson, Mosco Carner, Maurice Lindsay, Gerald Abraham, and John Horton--have here written on the various categories of Schumann's music, such as the piano music, songs, chamber music, and orchestral music. The new light thrown during the last twenty years on Schumann's life and work makes the book of particular interest; one of its valuable features is that it draws heavily on German sources of information, including manuscripts of Schumann's unpublished works and manuscript sketches, and for the first time makes this material available to the English reader. |
