Abstract A meeting of Catholics on the "calamities which have recently befallen" them. A grand jury blamed Philadelphia Catholics for the religious riots of 1844; it charged that Catholics, who opposed religious teaching in the public schools, attacked other citizens. This address denies the group libel with corroboration from some of the City's leading citizens.
