Renin combines with angiotensinogen in the liver to from angiotensin I -- 4. In the lungs, angiotensin 1 is converted to angiotensin II -- 5. Angiotensin II causes the kidney to reabsorb sodium and water, which increases blood volume and pressure -- 6. Angiotensin II stimulates the adrenal cortex to secrete aldosterone, causing the kidney to retain sodium and water -- 7. Angiotensin II induces vasoconstriction of arterioles, resulting in an increase in peripheral vascular resistance. |
