Biographical note | Captain Franklin D. Karns (1873-1952) graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1895, served during World War I, and was charged of negligence in the accidental grounding of the USS Colorado in May 1927. Helen Wallace Chew Karns (1884-1942) was the wife of Karns and the mother of Franklin D. Karns, Jr. (1903-1998). Karns, Jr. graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1925 and served during World War II. |
