Biographical noteBarbour Boat Works Inc. was founded by Herbert William Barbour in 1932 on the Trent River at New Bern, N.C. Government contracts during World War II sparked growth within the company, and following the war, the company began construction of both private and commercial vessels. During the company's history, a number of subsidiaries were formed, including Reggie's Outboard Service in 1955 and a diesel parts supply division in 1957. Before closing in the mid-1990s, the company expanded its services to accommodate repairs and conversions of vessels for U.S. government agencies and private businesses.
