Abstract |
Minister and educator Jacquelyn Grant was born in Georgetown, South Carolina on December 19, 1948. Grant attended Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina and Turner Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia. Grant was awarded her Ph.D. from Union Theological Seminary in New York City in 1985. She was involved with the Harvard Divinity School Women's Studies Program from 1977 to 1979. After leaving Harvard, Grant founded the Center for Black Women in Church and Society at the Interdenominational Theological Center in 1981 where she remained the director and a professor. Grant had an active presence in the ministry and served as the assistant minister at the Victory A.M.E. Church in Atlanta. She authored or edited several books, including White Women's Christ and Black Women's Jesus: Feminist Christology and Womanist Response. She received numerous awards and honors, including the Martin Luther King, Jr. Ministry Award, and appeared in Who's Who Among African Americans. |
