Abstract |
Military officer Ronald S. Coleman was born August 27, 1948. He earned his B.S. degree from Cheyney State University. Before college, Coleman enlisted in the Navy during the Vietnam War. After college graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant (USMC) in 1974. Coleman's military education included the Marine Corps Basic School (1975), the Command and Staff College in 1987, the Amphibious Warfare School in 1982, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1995. In 2003, Coleman was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the commanding general of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force. He was deployed again, in 2004, as the commanding general in support of Operation Secure Democracy in Haiti. Coleman became Lieutenant General in 2006, and was the second African American in Marine Corps history to reach the 3-star rank. Coleman's military honors include the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Gold Medal of French Defense. |
