Abstract |
Scholar and diplomat Sandye Jean McIntyre II was born September 18, 1923 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. In 1947, he received his B.A. degree in French from Johnson C. Smith University in North Carolina. He earned his M.A. degree in 1948 from Case Western Reserve University. In 1951, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in France at Université de Grenoble and Université de Paris. He completed the requirements for a Doctorate de Université. Later, he earned his Ph.D. degree in French in 1974 from Case Western Reserve. He began teaching in 1948 at Morgan State University. In 1951, the Fulbright program under his direction produced more Fulbright scholars than any other historically black college. McIntyre was named honorary consul to Haiti in 1956. He was the recipient of numerous honors for encouraging cooperation and diplomacy, including decoration by France as Knight. McIntyre passed away on October 8, 2006 at age 83. |
