Abstract |
University president Freeman Hrabowski III was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1950. Involved early in the Civil Rights Movement and jailed for marching, he went on to earn his Ph.D. degree from the University of Illinois in 1975. Hrabowski joined the faculty of Coppin State College in 1977 and rose to the position of vice president for academic affairs. In 1987, he left for the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he remained as president. Hrabowski created the Meyerhoff Scholarship was established at MBC for students interested in STEM. The program was open to all who excelled. He has also co-written two books and numerous articles for journals. Hrabowski received the Council on Chemical Research Diversity Award and the Outstanding Science Educator Award from Eli Lilly & Company, among many others. He was awarded the Marylander of the Year Award and the Outstanding Science Educator Award from Eli Lily. |
